My poem “Ignoring Omens” is in Issue 28 of After Happy Hour! A group of writers founded this cool literary magazine back in 2013, and it grew alongside their relationships as critique partners and fellow cheerleaders. I feel like its roots are still absolutely there in its vibe. There’s not necessarily an overarching theme; each poem and short piece of prose is doing its own thing. But the issue feels united anyway. I could easily see myself sitting down with a diverse critique group and these being the pieces shared.
As do several other pieces, my poem appears alongside art. I love when these ‘zines go out of their way to include art with the writing. I think it shapes how I read the pieces, adding another layer of meaning or atmosphere to the writing.
I also appreciate that the editors do author interviews! Read my answers here. As a writer, it’s always nice to get the opportunity add some context to my writing. As a reader, I like catching these glimpses of the other contributors’ personality and inspiration.
